Welcome to Module 4: Urban Gardening – Maintenance

In the previous modules you have learnt about the set up and benefits of urban gardening, the positive impact it has on you, on your community, and also on the climate. You have been creative in thinking about your dream garden and you have defined what you need to do to set up your dream urban garden. You have explored and decided upon the location, what type of soil it has and how much sun the garden gets etc.

In this module we will introduce to you the principles and the basics for maintaining your urban garden. The module will focus on:

  • Preparation of soil, different ways to plant and basics of crop rotation,
  • Maintenance like watering, fertilising, tackling weeds and pests, how to transplant plants and create a compost,
  • Crops: preserving fruits and vegetables and drying flowers and collecting seeds.
